Girl Scout Day

June 12, 2010: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. This is a rain-or-shine event. This year’s event celebrates the theme “It’s Your Planet — Love It!”

There will be tables set up for visitors to learn more about the Girl Scouts, and sponsorship opportunities for Operation:Cookie, which sends Girl Scout cookies to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, and to those recuperating at Walter Reed Medical Center and the Naval Hospital in Bethesda, Maryland. T-shirts will be on sale, with proceeds going to benefit Girl Scouts of Suffolk County.

In celebration of this year’s theme, one Girl Scout troop will be making pet rocks. Another Girl Scout troop will make mosaic butterflies using old magazines and another troop will turn old water bottles into piggy banks.

In addition to doing these and other activities, the Girl Scouts will also explore the Game Farm as they visit different exotic animals, enjoy the variety of shows and go on the fun, exciting rides.

“We are happy to have the Girl Scouts at the Game Farm,” said Diane Novak, President and Co-Owner, Long Island Game Farm. “I know they will enjoy visiting the Game Farm and learning about the exotic animals that we have here. It will be a fun and educational experience for them.”

“Girl Scouts of Suffolk County is proud to partner with the Long Island Game Farm for Girl Scout Day,” says Yvonne Grant, President and CEO of Girl Scouts of Suffolk County. “Our girls are looking forward to a day filled with fun, excitement and new learning experiences.”

The Girl Scouts have a special place for the Long Island Game Farm’s owners. Diane was a Girl Scout Troop Leader and her daughter, Melinda, was in the Girl Scouts as a teenager.

“The Girl Scouts will have a great time at the Game Farm between seeing the animals and going on the rides,” said Melinda Novak, Vice President and Co-Owner, Long Island Game Farm. “There is so much for them to do here at the Game Farm. It will be a day they will never forget.”

Advance tickets are on sale for Girl Scouts, their families and the general public for only $10 — a considerable savings over the regular admission. Tickets must be purchased in advance before June 10. Those who purchase tickets the day of the event will be charged the regular admission price.

To place an order, call Kelly at (631) 543-6622 ext. 221, or e-mail: kdrechsler@gssc.us. Tickets may also be purchased at the Girl Scouts Web site at www.gssc.us, either by paying online or by downloading and printing the flier. Those who wish to pay by check must make checks payable to GSSC.
