Girl Scouts Celebrate Girl Scout Day at Long Island Game Farm
On June 12, the Girl Scouts of Suffolk County had its annual Girl Scout Day at Long Island Game Farm Wildlife Park and Children’s Zoo. The theme for the event was “It’s Your Planet — Love It!” In celebration of the theme, Girl Scouts created arts and crafts made with recycled materials. They made butterflies from old newspapers; bird feeders using honeycombs, peanut butter and bird seed; and planters using cardboard egg cartons and pipe cleaners. They also made pet rocks and beaded wristbands.
In addition, Girl Scouts got a chance to visit the Game Farm, pet the animals, take a ride on the carousel and inside the giant teacups and check out the Muttville Comix Canine Comedy Show. Visitors at the Game Farm received free crafts by the Girl Scouts and got a chance to learn more about the Girl Scouts and Operation:Cookie, which distributes Girl Scout cookies to U.S troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan and those recuperating at Walter Reed Medical Center.
