Sunshine Comes to Long Island Game Farm

The Long Island Game Farm has announced the arrival of Sunshine, a one-month-old female baby zebra. Sunshine was purchased from a breeder in Florida by the Game Farm as a companion for Charlene, who has been at the Game Farm for more than 15 years.

Sunshine is a little over two-and-a-half feet tall, and weighs approximately 100 pounds. Full-grown zebras, like Charlene, can grow up to five feet tall and weigh up to 800 pounds. Many zebras can live until they are 25 years old. However, because of hunting and loss of habitat, zebras are an endangered species. These zebra exhibits at the Game Farm will continue to spread awareness throughout the community and help in stopping the decline of the zebra population.

Sunshine is adjusting well to her new environment. She enjoys her bottle feedings and enjoys being groomed by the staff. “Sunshine is fitting in well with all the other animals and is simply adored by the staff. We are certain she is going to enjoy growing up here and provide a great educational experience to our visitors,” said Melinda Novak, Co-Owner and Vice President, Long Island Game Farm.
