Game Farm Announces Winner of Cougar Contest

MANORVILLE, N.Y. — At opening day yesterday, the Long Island Game Farm re-introduced their recently acquired young cougar, Hudson. His name is the result of a 2.5-month long naming contest offered to children 12 and under.

The Game Farm received over 400 entries, but ultimately settled upon the suggestion of Caitlin Trey, of East Islip, and Chris Anne Wagers, of Shirley. The reasoning behind this entry was elegantly stated by 12 year old Caitlin, "I think the cougar should be named Hudson after the river that goes past the Catskills." Her family, she said, would visit the Catskill game farm after vacationing at a dude ranch in the Adirondacks.

The New York river provides a great namesake for an animal that has moved from the middle of the state down to the bottom of the river, on Long Island. Both winners will receive a family four-pack of admission tickets.
